Meetings and Workshops - Oct\Nov\Dec 2013

Theres' so much going on at the moment I thought I'd send a list of forthcoming events\workshops  - this list is subject to change and is by no means definitive, there will almost definitely be things missing! Occasionally (rarely, sometimes frequently) I get things wrong, so I'm hoping this isn't one of these occasions...

Guild Meetings...
1st Tuesday of Month - Quilting 101 with Betty Doyle, its a BoM from Craftsy and is open to all.
2nd Tuesday of Month - Business Meeting, Fat Quarter Lotto, etc
3rd Tuesday of Month - Show & Tell
4th Tuesday of Month - Demo Night
Where there is a 5th Tuesday in the month there will be a Yard Sale.

October
22nd - Demo Night - Demo on Binding by Jean Williston (I have said that if she can't find anything to bind I have a couple of things which need binding - but she politely declined!)
SATURDAY 26th - Craft Sale at the Seaman's Hospital 9am-2pm
29th - Yard Sale on 5th Tuesday of Month.

November
SATURDAY 2nd - Purses workshop with Betty Doyle at the White School on Sutton Road, Nelson
SATURDAY 2nd - Twister Quilt Workshop with Christel Pond at the Seaman's Hospital
5th - Quilting 101 with Betty Doyle - (5th is also Guy Fawkes Night for me, bonfire, fireworks, and food - check it on Google!)
5th Braided Charm - Bev Hackett will be running the Braided Charm Quilt project on Tuesday nights instead of in a single day workshop.
12th - Business Meeting, Fat Quarter Lotto - Seasonal\Christmas\Winter theme FQs, and selection of your Secret Santa giftee - remember that YOU are the ONLY person who should know who you are gifting to, all will be revealed at the Christmas Dinner.
SATURDAY 23rd - Machine and Hand Applique Workshop with Geraldine Gordon (machine) and Jackie Stephens (hand).
SATURDAY 30th - Braided Charm Workshop with Bev Hackett

December
3rd - Quilting 101 with Betty Doyle, The President's Winter Challenge (12 and a half inch square block, Winter theme)
10th - Christmas Dinner** and Secret Santa 'The Big Reveal'...I wonder if Santa will reappear this year?? **Dinner will be at the Golf & Country Club once again, 6pm, price to be confirmed by Colleen, menu will be the usual choice of Chicken or Beef subject to confirmation.

Not sure what the plan is for the Snowmen and Cottages Blocks at the moment.

ANYWAY, none of this is set in stone, dates and venues may change, events added\altered etc. This is just a FYI for the busy Fall\Festive season.

Enjoy your week - we'll see you for Demo Night next week.

Tuesday 1st October Meeting & other info!

Hi All,
Membership fees are due this week, and please turn in your membership card for renewal as we tag it for the coming year.
A membership card entitles you to 10% discount at fabric stores ( except Fabricville) - cards have even been used as far away as British Columbia...
Programs for the coming year will be discussed - with some dates already set.
We will be having a CRAFT SALE at the Seaman's on Saturday, October 26th. - items not sold at the show and whatever else you have:- pickling - baking, etc. Each will have own table and cost will be $60.00 divided by the number of tables rented.
SO, the more tables rented, the less cost per table.
See you all Tuesday evening.

Guild Members! IMPORTANT INFO follows, please read to the end!

There are 3 things to mention so it’s a long post…and all relevant to this week and next week’s events.
1) Firstly, Miramichi Quilt Guild will commence on Tuesday, 3rd September, 2013 for the 2013/14 year. We will have meet and greet this Tuesday starting at 7 pm, Seaman’s Hospital.  We have the quilt show coming up in 2 weeks so if you have your quilt registrations filled out Paula will collect them. She can then get started on preparing the cards that will be on the quilts. If you do not have a form, I have printed off extras (and it has been emailed twice), just jot down your info to transfer to the form Tuesday night (Name of quilt & size, same with wall hangings).  Betty and\or Ursula will fill you in on more details about the show!
*Your $20.00 membership fee is due in the month of September.   Hope to see you all out on Tuesday night.
2) Next – Message from Betty about the impending Show…
Update: The Lions Club in Newcastle is booked, the publicity girls have been advertising and sending out notices to all the other guilds in the province as well as N.S. and P.E.I. Locally, we have posted posters in the different business establishments and on bulletin boards. More will go up last week before show. Keep posting messages on your Facebook page as well!
Those girls responsible for booths are set to go and will accept all items you wish to show and/or sell. In case you are not sure who they are I will have a list for you to look at Tuesday night, and will post one on the bulletin board. We ask that you make a list of all your items to give to them and make a copy for yourself. Make sure each item has a tag attached with your name and price. These you can get from me or Maureen whenever you are ready.
The big quilts: We will be collecting those starting Tuesday night. You will need the registration form which I sent earlier this summer through an email, but I will have more to pass out on Tuesday night. If you are going to use pillow cases, plastic bags, quilt carriers, totes, etc to bring them in, please put something on them for identification. You can wait until the setting up on Friday the 13th after 2pm to bring them directly to the Lions Club if you wish but we would like to know ahead how many plan to do so to keep a count of how many we will be hanging. We encourage you to have a 4inch sleeve on the back for easy hanging since we have a limited number of plastic clamps.
The Challenge: Don't forget to pass your creation in to Geraldine whenever it is ready.
If you have questions or concerns please mention them on Tuesday night. Let’s be proud of all that we, the members of the Miramichi Quilt Guild, have created  and let’s SHOW it off !
3) Finally, a Message from Susan Fowlie…
As you may already be aware, Claudia and I are working on the “history of the guild” project.  We are in the process of sorting through papers and putting them in chronological order in each section of the book.
We have an "IN MEMORIAM" section which lists all those members who have passed away.  Since both of us are new members (joined in 2010-11 & 2011-12), there are deceased members that we do not know about.  We are asking for your help with any details you may be able to share with us about these members.  Things such as ‘Member A’ was an avid reader, or ‘Member B’ preferred applique quilt work, loved gardening, maybe a nickname, favourite TV show, family, pets, etc.
Also, if you happen to have a picture of any of the members, we would appreciate being able to borrow them, then we can scan and return them to you, it would be of great help.
We would like to have this info before the Quilt show, so this section would be complete.  There is still a lot of information that needs to be collected and organized, so the books will not be complete but will still be at the quilt show for viewing.
Also if anyone has other information that they would like to contribute concerning the Guild we will scan and return original documents. (Prefer to have doubles of something rather than have nothing). Other information could include copies of newsletters, lists of members who were on the various committees for any specific two year periods, pictures/listings of members who attended workshops, quilting retreats, Christmas parties or year end parties, any newspaper clippings, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Our membership section is nearly completed.  We thought we had everything, but come to find out we only had a partial listing (from A to J on the surnames) of the 2007-08.   It would be great to have this section also finished for the quilt show, if somebody has the complete list.
PS from Ursula - Any members willing to donate an item(s) for our raffle basket if they can bring  it with them on Tuesday night, or if not attending bring them to the work day on Thursday.  Thank-you and see you all Tuesday night.
Please check your emails for further updates!
